Ekdalia Evergreen Club

South KolkataFull guideFlagship pandal

A Gariahat puja running since 1943 that has built its name on faithful temple-replica pandals — the Golden Temple, Meenakshi Temple, Brihadisvara Temple — rather than chasing pop-culture themes.

Ekdalia Evergreen Club has held its Durga Puja on Ekdalia Road in Ballygunge, near Gariahat in South Kolkata, since 1943. Among the neighbourhood's cluster of famous pujas, it's carved out a distinct identity by consistently building close architectural replicas of real temples rather than film sets or global landmarks: the Golden Temple of Vellore in 2012, the Meenakshi Temple in 2016, the Brihadisvara Temple of Thanjavur in 2018, and the Arunachaleswarar Temple of Tiruvannamalai in 2025 are among the builds it's known for.

That temple-replica approach is usually paired with an elaborate chandelier-lit interior and a traditionally styled idol rather than an experimental one. The puja also had a long-standing patron in West Bengal minister Subrata Mukherjee, who supported it from 1972 until his death.
